I received my tv with a damaged panel. Thankfully, Samsung provides free in-home repair for their products through their authorized repair agents. It was a good experience, relatively hassle free, and now the TV looks as good as it should have to begin with. It has all of the basic functions that you'd look for, including 2 HDMI and 2 component inputs, and a host of picture settings. The sound is fine but not thrilling, and chances are it's a bedroom tv (my situation) or you have a surround sound hookup through the digital audio out. I am very pleased with the depth of the blacks, as at 8,000:1 the contrast ratio is as high as many plasmas were just a year ago. The color accuracy is quite good (once you do some calibration to your tastes) and the dedicated brightness setting helps you customize it to the brightness of the room you are in. I haven't noticed any false conturing nor any motion blur, as the refresh rate is also good. Though maxing out at 1080i/720p, at this size the extra dollars for 1080p are really wasted. Save your money there and get a 19-in LCD for the kitchen! My simple, yet favorite, feature is the input recognition. No cycling through all possible inputs to get to the one you want; only active inputs come up when cycling through your sources. Nothing really negative to say... other than the lag between turning on the set and getting a picture, but that is a common LCD trait. The TV's design is attractive, has all of the features you really need, and was a really reasonable price (thank you Lightning Deals!). What can I say? I got this TV for dirt cheap. I got it hooked up via component cables through my cable box and the picture looks crisp! I don't know why but my cable box doesn't have an HDMI outlet, but it does have 2 firewire ports and a USB port, WTF?! Shame on Cox Cable. I do however have HDMI hooked up through my PS3 and the picture is far superior than my HD Cable. The speakers are surprisingly good, especially through HD sound on Blu-ray, can't ask for more for a bedroom TV. Very satisfied with the TV and Amazon delivery. Like many others, I've been hunting around for a flatscreen to replace an older "tube-type" television. My budget allowed about $600-$700. For the most part, I found I could easily buy a 32" tv, but I really wanted a 37". I found some, but they were from manufacturers whom I'd never heard from.
I'd done my research with Consumer Reports, visited several brick & morter stores as well as online stores. I didn't plan to purchase an extended warranty so I wanted to find one from a company with few returns. (Samsung was in Consumer Reports' top 5 list of companies to buy tv's from.) Although this exact model wasn't tested, several other similar models were and all ranked well.

My worries were unfounded. While the outside box was taped poorly and was "leaking" styrofoam peanuts, the tv was in another box and was in perfect condition.

My mother owns this model and has for a few weeks now. It's classy-looking with a glossy outer bezel and an oval stand (included). The TV itself seems larger than the competitors, simply because the speakers are located on the sides. This helps give a more natural-sounding stereo effect without the extra cost of a home theater system. It's just got a high-end, quality look to it. Samsung LCDs are renowned for having a top-notch viewing angle. This holds true with this model. Stand nearly 180° to the side, and the picture is still bright and clear. LCDs have come a long way in a few short years.
The remote is well-marked and easy to use. TV-accessed menus are simple and quick to navigate. My mother, not well-versed in knowledge of consumer electronics, was able to configure the settings herself with very little help.
Unlike lower-end competitors, though, this 3-series Samsung does not offer any separate composite hookups (the 3 red, white, and yellow plugs). One of the component hookups must be used in place. If you have, say, a DVD/VCR combo, Dish Network (non-HD), and a Nintendo Wii to all hookup, you're out of luck. There simply isn't room for more than 2 non-HD inputs. It can be annoying to have to repeatedly unplug and replug items into your new TV. If you plan on using at least one of the HDMI plugs, though, this problem is avoided. However, be aware that most direct competitors do offer more non-HD hookups.
For the price, you can find larger TVs. Big retailers are often willing to sell last year's models at cheaper prices (ie 720p TVs) because most people spending $700+ want the latest and greatest. If you just want a quality TV and you plan on using the HDMI hookups for true High Definition viewing, this is probably the best picture you'll find. I made sure my mom knew what to look for when she went shopping - and she agreed by getting this one.

I got this TV for our basement for the Wii that we just purchased as we have a 55 inch DLP upstairs for our normal viewing. The reason why we got a lower end LCD was 1 price, 2 it wasn't going to be our everyday TV to watch so I wasn't quite as concerned with the picture quality, and 3 we wanted to mount it on the wall so that we would not have issues with hitting it with our Wii remotes. The picture quality is great with the Wii and is good for TV. I would recommend this TV for someone that isn't going to use it as their primary TV. If they were buying a primary TV I would suggest spending more and getting a 1080p as you can see the difference in picture quality. The Samsung LN73B550 is a beautiful TV for an affordable price. If you're in the market for a LCD less than 40" then I would highly recommend this one. The colors are sharp and very crisp. Setup out of the box was extremely easy. My only quibble might be the sound quality, but I think that may be due to it sitting in an enclosed entertainment center. Well this is my second Samsung LCD TV- my other is a 53". I purchased this one for the bedroom with fact of my first Samsung has been flawless and when we have company our guests always compliment on the quality of the picture. This TV as well has a great picture and no complaints about the sound. My only let down was for the "Touch of Color" bezel. I am agreeing with other reviewers that this is an excellent product with only two attributes that were not as expected:
- Touch of color really is only a "touch". Without light shining directly on it the frame looks completely black
- Sound quality is poor. The right speaker has a tendency to ring at certain frequency even at low volume.
Picture quality is excellent; the TV set is not too heavy and looks good.
Please note that amazon ships this product via "Pilot" freight services. They will call you 24 hours before delivery is due to set up a time window for delivery. I am very happy with the Samsung LN37B550 LCD TV (and the Samsung Blu-Ray Player BD-P1600).
I do not understand how you could ever think a "Red Touch of Color" bezel means "ambient light" or even that the bezel has a "light source." As for having the Red Touch of Color on the bezel, I feel it is meaningless for most people anyways because it just helps distinguish between the 2008 LNxxA550 and the 2009 LNxxB550.
After having looked at Consumer Reports and other sites for ratings, I "settled" on the value of the B550 and did not feel the extra expense to get the B650 (with double the refresh rate) was worth the extra money. I can say could see the difference of 120Hz versus 60Hz refresh rate at a retailer, but for home use it was not worth it.
Shipping for me was as quoted and I really appreciate the scheduling of delivery, that way you do not have the TV sitting out for someone to steal.
I have not used the speakers on the TV since I have an external sound system. I do have issues with volume "leveling" when using Pandora on the Blu-Ray Player, but I do not believe it is related to the TV.

The Samsung LN37B550 is a great TV. It was delivered timely and easy to set up. Bought this TV because I liked the LN52A650 so much and needed a TV for the bedroom. The TV has an excellent picture and decent sound for its size. But less than 2 weeks after it arrived, there was no video, just audio. Because the TV was only a few weeks old, Amazon quickly resolved the problem by sending a replacement. Dealing with Samsung's customer service reps, however, was a nightmare and only emphasized the great service Amazon provided.

Our town recently became the first town in the U.S. to be completely wired for fiberoptics and one advantage of that is that we now have a competitor to MediaCON for directly wired cable access. Our new service is half the price of MediaCON, more channels and all high definition with just the standard package. So we broke down and bought this television to replace our 20 year one.
When I plugged it in, the experience was night and day. It made me feel as if I had been watching black and white my whole life and now I could see in color. It was sharp, it was smooth, it was brilliant. I didn't and haven't adjusted a single setting in regards to picture quality. I am completely amazed with Samsung and have now become a fan.
The only complaint I have is with their menu. Since I have fiberoptic cable, I do need a box to translate the signal for the television and a universal remote for the box that I can program to control the television. The box is connected via the HDMI1 port. However, this port is third on the list of sources so that everytime the channel button is pushed on the universal remote that controls the fiberoptic conversion box, it defaults back to the over the air signal which is first on the list of sources. I then have to switch back over to the other remote to change the source back to the HDMI1 port. This could all be solved by Samsung by just allowing the user to arrange the order of the signal sources as they desire.

This is a great TV from Samsung. I was looking at Bravia and this one. The Bravia has some dull colors while colors on the Samsung are very vibrant and beautiful. Also, it has a better contrast ratio. The viewing angles are great and you cannot complain at all with this one.
It is very good for watching blu-ray movies and playing games off PS3. The sound from the TV is amazing as well.
It has some great features like USB-picture (hope it had USB-movie too like in the B650). A very easy to use TV, no complex menus to deal with and no hassle. It has 4 HDMI input ports and a PC-port (to connect a computer). The swivel stand is a small but a handy feature.

I bought this to replace my (3 yr. old) sony sxrd rear projection. This is my first flat panel and also first samsung TV. I chose this TV over the samsung 32" B460 model (768p), which itself is a good TV & relatively inexpensive, but I wanted something bigger- it is 38% larger (than the 32, which is actually 31.5").
It was pretty simple to put together just a few screws to the base- you need two people however. I like the styling of it a lot and the black glass base matches my TV stand perfectly. I had it up and running via HDMI in just a few minutes.
I do feel the 1080p resolution is probably overkill for this size, but it seems manufactures are really phasing out the 720p sets. Maybe 5 years into the future there might be 1080p programming? This size equates to a 30" CRT tv (in 4:3 mode). I may someday upgrade to a bigger set in the 50" range and thus move this set to the bedroom, but in the meantime this set is great & looks very sleek, just 3" deep!
The remote is a little oddly shaped, fairly big, not backlit, & not universal. Energy star 3.0, this set is very efficient. The picture quality looks very good, especially in HD - for me via dish network. I can't comment on the sound as I have it hooked thru a receiver & external speakers. Having 4 HDMI inputs and USB is nice too. The "piano key" glossy black frame does reflect light especially during the day which can be a bit distracting- I would have preferred samsung made it flat black instead. I also would like to see it made in the USA instead of mexico.

Well, the TV just got to the warehouse today (Tuesday), meaning it will be sitting in a warehouse for a week until they finally get someone to deliver it the last 250 miles.

I have had the tv for almost a week now. It's worth noting that the default tv settings do not seem to correspond to the colors in the original recording. In fact, while watching various DVDs, I felt that the colors were off since they seemed unnatural. After an extensive google search and playing around with settings, I finally settled on a very detailed description on how to re-tune the settings. The link is:

You will need to access the service menu, which can be done with the (Off, Mute, 1, 8, 2, On) combination on the remote - note that the (Off, Menu, 1, 8, 2, On) combination mentioned in the link is incorrect. I have applied the settings mentioned in the link, and now the dvds look INCREDIBLE! I highly recommend the new settings.
Also, please access the service menu at your own risk, since some of the forums warn that it might void your warranty. Also, be very very careful while navigating the service menu. The link has further instructions about that.
The reason I am giving the tv a 4 star instead of 5 is that the audio quality is not as high as the video quality. I would advise pairing the tv with an external speaker system.
